Association between polymorphisms in the APOB gene and hyperlipidemia in the Chinese Yugur population BJMBR
Gu,Q-L.; Han,Y.; Lan,Y-M.; Li,Y.; Kou,W.; Zhou,Y-S.; Hai,X-J.; Yan,B.; Ci,C-H..
We investigated the influence of apolipoprotein B gene (APOB) variants on the risk of hyperlipidemia (HL) in 631 middle-aged and elderly members of the Chinese Yugur population (HL, n=336; normolipidemia, n=295). APOB polymorphisms were identified using mass spectrometry, and five single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs1042034, rs2163204, rs512535, rs676210, and rs679899) and serum lipids were further analyzed. rs1042034 and rs676210 were significantly associated with HL (P<0.05). Compared with the GG or AA genotype, individuals with AG and AG+AA in rs1042034 and with AG and AG+GG in rs676210 had a 1.67-fold (95%CI=1.20–2.33),1.63-fold (95%CI=1.19–2.24), 1.72-fold (95%CI=1.24–2.40), and 1.67-fold (95%CI=1.21–2.291) increased risk of high HL, respectively....

Emulsifier in broiler diets containing different fat sources Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Guerreiro Neto,AC; Pezzato,AC; Sartori,JR; Mori,C; Cruz,VC; Fascina,VB; Pinheiro,DF; Madeira,LA; Gonçalvez,JC.
This present study aimed at evaluating the effect of the addition of an emulsifier to diets containing soybean oil, poultry fat or their blend, on the performance, carcass traits, serum lipid levels, pancreatic lipase concentration and nutrient digestibility of broilers. A randomized block design was applied using a 3 x 2 factorial arrangement, with three fat sources (soybean oil, poultry fat, and a blend of 50% soybean oil and 50% poultry fat) and the addition or not of an emulsifier. In experiment I, broiler performance, carcass traits, serum cholesterol, HDL, and triglyceride levels, and pancreatic lipase activity in 42-day-old broilers were evaluated. In experiment II, dry matter (DM), ether extract (EE), crude protein (CP) and crude fiber (CF)...

Lipoprotein lipase PvuII polymorphism is associated with variations in serum lipid levels in non-diabetic pregnant women BJMBR
Sepetiba,R.J.C.; Andrade,J.; Hirata,R.D.C.; Hirata,M.H.; Sepetiba,C.R.G.; Nakamura,Y.; Matsumoto,L.O.; Cavalli,S.A.; Bertolami,M.C..
The aim of the present study was to determine if there is an association between the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the lipoprotein lipase (LPL) and apolipoprotein E (apo E) genes and the serum lipid profile in pregnancy and puerperium. Non-diabetic women of European descent in the third semester of pregnancy (N = 120) were selected. Those with diseases or other condition that could modify their lipid profile were excluded from the study (N = 32). Serum lipids were measured by routine laboratory procedures and genomic DNA was extracted by a salting out method. LPL (PvuII and HindIII) and apo E (HhaI) SNPs were detected by the polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism. Categorical and continuous variables were...

Some Bovine proteins behave as dietary fibres and reduce serum lipids in rats OAK

We examined the physiological importance of bovine dietary proteins in rats fed diets prepared from bovine Achilles’tendons and arteries. Rats were fed for 4 weeks, with 20% casein diet (CON), in comparison with two diets containing 15% casein and 5% of either bovine Achilles’ tendons (AC) or arteries (AR) protein preparations. The serum total cholesterol concentration and non-HDL cholesterol level in the AR fed group were significantly lower (P<0.05) than those in the CON fed group at the end of the 4 week feeding period. The hepatic mRNAs were measured, and the HMG-CoA reductase mRNA level was significantly lower (P<0.05) in AR fed group compared to CON fed group. Total hepatic cholesterol concentration, in rats fed AC was significantly...

Soybean Oil and Beef Tallow in Starter Broiler Diets Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Fascina,VB; Carrijo,AS; Souza,KMR; Garcia,AML; Kiefer,C; Sartori,JR.
The objective of this study was to determine the energy values of soybean oil (SBO) and tallow (T) combined in different ratios, and to evaluate their effects on the performance, body composition, and serum lipid levels of starter broilers. In experiment I, a digestibility trial was performed to determine the energy value of the SOB and T mixtures using 100 12 - to 21 -day-old broilers. In experiment II, 930 one-day-old broilers were used. Treatments consisted of the inclusion of 4% SBO and T inclusions at the following ratios: 0:100, 25:75, 50:50, 75:25, 100:0. Each treatment included six replicates. In experiment I, AME and AMEn linearly increased (P<0.01), as SBO participation in the mixture increased. In experiment II, the different lipid ratios...
